Dear
Parents and Guardians,
My
name is Ms. Danielle Speck, and I am your child’s teacher for the upcoming
school year. I am very excited to be working alongside all of you to help your
child reach success through their individual achievements.
I
want to start by providing a little background knowledge about myself.
Currently I am a recent graduate from Brock University’s Concurrent Education
program where I held a major in English Language and Literature and a minor in
Dramatic Arts. I am qualified to teach grade four to twelve and I have many
great and innovative ideas that will help meet the needs of your child. Prior
to my graduation, I completed three placements where I was able to teach the
subjects of English and Drama to students in grades nine to eleven. I have had
extensive experience working at summer camps, tutoring, and volunteering. I
always strive to go above and beyond the requirements, in order to do whatever
it takes to help students/children succeed. Seeing children strive to do well
because they value education or they value knowledge is one reason that I will
walk into the classroom with a smile on my face every day. I cannot wait to work
with all of your children, and I hope to empower and inspire them to fulfill
their lifelong dreams and aspirations.
The website: http://missspeck.blogspot.ca/ will be updated frequently, so
please feel free to check it over it its entirety. I will post important
information for parents, and reminders, important resources, and the curriculum
expectations and/or course connections that your son/daughter will be working
closely with this year. I have also provided a link to the District School
Board of Niagara’s website and a school year calendar which can be accessed at
any time.
The set up of the
classroom is going to be in pairs because I feel that students are somewhat shy
throughout the beginning of the school year, and this way they will have a
companion sitting beside them. I want to encourage team work so eventually I
will rearrange the seats so that students are sitting in table groups. This set
up becomes efficient for group work and the sharing of ideas. This is going to
be a year of meaning making for your son/daughter. I want to briefly explain
the expectations that are placed upon your child at the Junior level. Students
will learn subject-specific content and understand the meaning and significance
of the content learned (knowledge and understanding). Students will learn how
to think critically and creatively (thinking). Students will learn how to
convey meaning through various forms (communication). Students will also learn
to use their knowledge and skills to make connections within and between a variety
of contexts (application). Students are expected to demonstrate the values
listed above while embarking on their own individual journey. Not only will I
act as a guide, role model, and mentor for these students, but I will do my
best to ensure that each and every student benefits from the classroom experience.
Thank
you and I look forward to the upcoming year. Please feel free to contact me at
any time in regards to any concerns, situations, questions, or comments that
may arise through the school year. My personal email is: danielle.speck@live.ca which I check quite often.
